Shimano Game Type Slow Jigging Rods

This is the state-of-the-art jigging technique that has been spreading in Japan and now all around the world, elevating the game of jigging to another dimension.

Slow pitch jigging is not slow reeling. It is a continuous sequence of stop and go pitches. Its basically one pitch per second. That tempo is very slow compared to the conventional style of jigging and has three main variations that can be combined: Slow Pitch Jerk, Hi Pitch Jerk, Long Fall Jerk.

This technique is usually done using a baitcasting or multiplier reel. It has the advantage of allowing you to know exactly when your lure has hit the bottom, which controls your depth more easily and enhances the direct contact with your line. This last point is very important because «Slow Jigging» is above all to listen to your line and «Jig» to find out what’s going on under water and take advantage of the situation.

You should use a reel without a wire guide. It can break too easily under the pressure of a trophy fish, and it would be in any case a weak point for the line because of the tension and friction during the fight. The only exception is if you target smaller fish with «Slow Light Jigging».

Shimano developed the Game Type Slow Jigging rods, specially designed for the «Slow Jigging» style. This blank has an ultra parabolic action and a very soft tip to work well with all the 3 variations of «Slow Jigging»mentioned above. This rod was constructed to meet the smallest load, even when a light impulse «pitch» of 1/2, 3/4 or 1/8 turn of the handle, 20 to 30cm in length. The rod answers up slowly and gradually.

The SJ B684 can animate «Jigs» weighing up to 300 gr and has all the ingredients of a good «Slow Jigging» rod: it is highly sensitive with a blank working fine from top to toe and can cover different weights and types of «Jigs» to adapt the most fishing conditions.

Spiral X construction consists of three layers: a blank made of vertical fibers, an inner layer, and an outer layer both comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions. By using this carbon tape in place of a conventional horizontal fiber sheet, Spiral X achieves enhanced torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This in turn facilitates instant power transmission for precise casting and fighting fish. Through its exclusive lightweight structure, Shimano’s Spiral X construction enhances anglers’ «catching power.»

In Hi-Power X construction, the blank’s outermost layer is diagonally wrapped with carbon tape, which forms an array of «X» shapes. The width of the tape, its winding angle and the part of the rod being wrapped are fine-tuned according to the target fish species. The flexibility allows Shimano to adjust these wraps during construction for precise actions, enhanced overall strength and added twist resistance. In short, Hi-Power X construction delivers sharp and crisp rod control by the angler.
