In 2020 the Daiwa Saltiga evolved even further, to bring together the latest Daiwa technologies. To meet the needs of all fishermen, a new size system has been applied to the Saltiga 2020 and two different handles have been designed. For consistency purposes with previous spinning reels, the 2020 Saltiga 8000 model corresponds to the 4500 size of the 2015 model and the 20.000 model is the equivalent of the former 8000 size.

The frame of the Saltiga 2020 benefits from the latest Daiwa innovations, one of which is the Monocoque Body structure, a single symmetrical machined part, that provides the reel with greater robustness and makes it more waterproof than ever, pushing further the lifespan of the reel. Reels built with the Monocoque technology, benefit from being comprised of a single part, improving their rigidity. This improved rigidity helps to prevent gear slippage and can improve rotation durability. The other major benefit of the Monocoque Body is its compactness. Whereas previous structural designs required extra space for screws, this design saves space by eliminating screws, thereby enabling the inclusion of gears of previously impossible sizes.

Light & Strong like a Formula 1 Car

In the history of spinning reels, it was only natural that the housing was a combination of two parts: the body and the body cover. However, with the Monocoque Body structure, the body itself is a rigid frame, durable to twists and bends, and yet it is space-economizing and compact. It is used in the likes of rockets and Formula One vehicles, where durability and space efficiency are required under extreme conditions. In the spinning reel, which contains over 150 parts in its small body, the Minocoque structures impact was truly immense. By eliminating the need for screw space, the drive gear was expanded to its maximum size relative to the dimensions of the body. Now, the body could hold a large-diameter drive gear that covers around 85% of the bodys surface. In other words, bodies of the same size as before, are now able to house much larger gears, and if the gear size were instead kept the same, then extremely compact bodies could be created.

The new Daiwa Saltiga 2020 has been entirely made of aluminum, making the body solid strong, but also lighter thanks to its composition in Dura-Aluminum G1. In order to limit corrosion, 5 layers of paint are applied to the body: anodizing, anti-static paint, primer, paint and varnish.

Not even one Drop of Water Inside

Anglers demand reels that can maintain solid performance even in extreme environments. However, waterproofing the winding mechanism entails some extremely difficult problems. This is because in order for winding to take place, there must be space inside the body for objects to rotate. If that space is closed up for waterproofing purposes, rotational performance will be lost. This problem was solved by an approach that used liquid to block liquids. This is Daiwas unique Magsealed technology, which uses magnetism to create a semi-permanent wall of MagSeal Oil that prevents seawater and dust from gaining entry to the reels interior. Revealed in 2010, this groundbreaking technology has been used for line rollers and ball bearings, and continues to achieve demonstrable results in terms of durability by dramatically lowering the number of product repair cases. In the Saltiga, the pinion shaft and line roller use Magsealed technology, in addition to Magsealed ball bearings on both ends of the drive gear.

The Aluminum Air Rotor is stiffer than the Zaion Carbon material and more powerful, so the bail arm is more resistant.

The ATD Drag System is now made up of 14 parts, instead of 6 for the 2015 Saltiga model, which makes the Saltiga 2020 ten times more powerful and enduring than its predecessor. The Drag Knob has also been redesigned and its size increased by 42%, to improve its ergonomics. Two basic internal components of the drag system are also made of aluminum, which possesses heat transfer and dissipation properties. In order to fine-tune the drag properties, the sound of the clicker was intensified.

Daiwa installed in the Saltiga a round, or oval aluminum handle, offering a powerful and comfortable grip.

Always with the aim of maximizing the pleasure element in fishing, the Saltiga 2020 is equipped with an LC-ABS spool which ensures a fluid line exit, as well as a reduction in the risk of coils. Another practical detail of the Saltiga 2020 is housed in the bail arm, the opening and closing of which are controlled by a ratchet which prevents the rotor from turning in the middle of the cast.
